Rookie Report: Sarunas Jasikevicius

Related entries in NBA

I’ve been meaning to write about this guy for a while. I’ve known Sarunas Jasikevicius since his happy days in the European league. In the last 3 years before moving to the NBA he led 2 teams into the European championship, achieving the MVP award in all 3 final-fours.
He received another MVP award for leading Lithuania (national team) to the gold medal in 2003, and to bronze medal in the 2000 Olympics. Not to mention 23.3 ppg average in 3 games against the US Team.
This year he is making his first steps towards NBA fame playing for the Pacers, and has shown several great games already. Last night he even helped the pacers beat the Cavaliers 76:98 scoring 17 points (personal best so far) against one of the hottest teams in the league.

Interested in more information about this guy? This page features Qs and As with Sarunas, Bird and several others, pretty interesting stuff there.

Las Vegas Marlins (?) Holding Fingers

Related entries in MLB

News this morning mention that the Florida Marlins have made up their mind to leave Miami and migrate to a new location (outside of Florida). This move comes due to their failed attempt to get a baseball-only stadium built in Miami.

The Florida Marlins will examine moving the franchise as early as the 2008 season, after years of unsuccessful attempts to secure a baseball-only stadium in downtown Miami.

One of the options for a new location Las Vegas (NV) had offered their space and a brand new stadium for the team.

As a long time Las Vegas resident, I know that the current mayor has been trying to get some action in town by bringing a professional sports team here. I love watching live baseball and the idea of having such team here in town sounds pretty good. Keeping fingers crossed…

Forget Harry Potter, The New Wizard is Manning

Related entries in NFL

Forget Harry Potter, it is so last week, Payton Manning has taken over the master wizard position for this week throwing three TD’s and leading the Colts for just another in in their so-far perfect season. “He’s unbelievable” said Bangles QB Carson Palmer, “They’re unbelievable”.
With the defence of faltering for the first time this season, and Cincinnati’s defence geared to stop running back Edgerrin James, it was up to Manning to ptorect the perfect record. And so he did, winning the placing the Colts at 10-0, the first team to do so, since Denver in 1998, and the 17th team altogether.

Someone call the Steelers and tell them to prepare for a beat down…

Pyatt Showed Up to Work (Finally)

Related entries in NHL

Taylor Pyatt finally made it to work, he scored his first 3 goals this season, recording his second career hat trick. The Thunder Bay native has been struggling to put it together this season and finally got his name up at 7 games into the season. This season he is showing the exact opposite of his performance 2 years ago where he scored seven times in Buffalo’s first 24 games that season, but finished with just eight goals in 63 games.

“The one thing I’ve learned from my first few years in the league is that there are a lot of ups and downs in the season,” Pyatt said. “Sometimes you think it’s never going to come, but it sure does feel good when it does happen.”

With his 3 and the help of defenceman Brian Campbell had two goals, Buffalo Sabres went for a wild 8-5 win over the Washington Capitals.

Other NHL scores from tonight:

  • Hurricanes 5, Rangers 1
  • Maple Leafs 4, Bruins 1
  • Lightning 3, Islanders 2
  • Senators 4, Panthers 1

Eagles on a Roll…

Related entries in NFL

The Eagles are on a roll, they’ve lost their 3rd game in a row, the first time since 1999, and what a loss that was. Holding a solid 20-7 lead and 3:04 on the clock would normally mean, start getting ready for next week’s game, however, yesterday it didn’t.
With 3:04 on the clock, Drew Bledsow connected with Terry Glen on a 20-yard touchdown pass that brought the Cowboys to 20-14. On a second play after the ensuing kickoff, McNabb’s poorly thrown pass to the right side was picked off by Roy Williams, who outran McNabb for a second touchdown in 21 seconds. The Eagles made a 60 yard field goal attempt, but it was too short and too late…
I didn’t really think he was gonna throw the ball,” said Williams. “My eyes lid up and the rest was history.”
Even Bill Parcel, the Cowboy’s coach, shook his head in disbelief at the end of the game. I guess he knows how it feels being in the same situation but on the losing side only a few weeks ago.

Next week the Cowboys will meet the Lions at Dallas, and the Eagles will travel to New York to meet with the Giants.

Appologies for the long waiting time, some problems with the previous editor had forces us to look for a replacement. Anyways, I’d like to thank Jacob for the time spent editing this blog.

As far as myself, my name is Gilad, and I will be taking over as the “entertainer” for the near future. As you know NBA season had just started, and NHL is entering into it’s second phase, so expect things to heat up…

“Black Sox” go for the Sweep

Related entries in MLB

white sox curse

The Chicago White Sox have the opportunity tonight to wash away the memory of the 1919 “Black-Sox” who were accused of agreeing to throw the world series. If the White Sox can win one of the next four games they will be the second team in two years to wipe away over eighty years of world-series drought.

I for one believe that they can and will win tonight. Freddy Garcia will take the mound for Chicago, and Brandon Backe for Houston. This could be the second straight American League sweep of a world series, and for the second year in a row it could be a team that very few people were predicting would be there.

I know that I was predicting St.Louis all the way, and I was dead wrong on that one. Oh well, Baseball will likely be done with by tonight, and we can move on to the NBA.

Leafs over Bruins in Shoot-out

eddie stops 49

I sat down with an old friend last night to watch the Maple Leafs play the Bruins. He loves Boston, and was teasing me all night long about how Ed Belfour can still play pretty well for a fifty year old man (knowing full well that he is forty). Well last night was a crazy night for Eddie the Eagle. That game had it all man! It was a division match-up, so essentially was a four pointer. The Leafs were rated as underdogs, and Sundin is still out with an injury. So Eddie rose up as the hero (sort of).

When a goalie lets in four goals, two of them being very soft, you wouldn’t expect him to be the star of the show. But Ed Belfour stopped 49 shots on goal last night, including a number of game savers whilst the Leafs were two men short at the end. Then Eddie stopped all three shoot-out attempts to seal the deal. Oh it was an exciting game.

In the meantime, Ottawa lost a game finally, so now Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Buffalo are tied for first in the division, and fourth overall in the NHL. No one expected Toronto to be in that picture. Another interesting fact about the glorious Maple Leafs that no-one expected is that they are second in scoring (only Detroit has more goals). I, for one, and looking forward to seing how the season develops.

Big Shift

Greetings friends. My apologies for the hiatus over the last two weeks. I have moved from a small town in New Brunswick Canada, to a big city in Ontario. In the process there was so much going on that I failed to do any writing what-so-ever. BUT, I am now well established in the city, and am looking forward to getting back into the swing of providing interesting, up to date ideas and figures about what’s happening in sports these days.

NFL: Only One!

james_colts

There have been four undefeated teams through four weeks of football. Well yesterday that number became One. The Indianapolis Colts are 5-0 while Tampa and Cincinatti are 4-1, Washington at 3-1.

The New York Jets knocked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers down a peg, with 41 year old Vinnie Testaverde at the helm of the Jets. He wasn’t spectacular, going 13-19 with one interception and no touchdowns, but the defence made up for any shortcomings they may have had.

Washington was another undefeated team to lose by only two points. The Redskins were in tough against the Broncos in Denver. Denver doesn’t lose at home, so the Redskins, though undefeated, were the underdogs from the beginning. 21-19 Denver shows that Washington does have a good team, who could sneak into the playoffs.

As for Cincinnati, well allow me to quote myself on this one “Cincinnati may be the first team to fall. They have been so good, but they lost both of their centers and play Jacksonville next week…. Cinci plays Jacksonville who is 2-2. But Jacksonville did hold Indianapolis to just 10 points, and they have scored points when opportunity knocked. They are 2-2, and have something to prove. Look for a tight game here.”

Well it was a tight game, and Jacksonville DID win it, 23-20.

So with Indianapolis playing St. Louis, New England, Pittsburgh and Cincinatti in four of their next six games, it is questionable whether or not they can remain perfect. Their defence is allowing fewer than six points per game, and their offence is clicking a lot better, but they just need one nasty day to ruin the streak. I for one am hoping that day doesn’t come, GO COLTS!!!
